A Skip Hire Guide.
When hiring a skip there are a number of things to know to ensure you have a positive and worthwhile skip hire experience :
Items to NOT put in our skips.
Gas bottles, Chemicals, Paints and Paint tins, Monitors, TV, Solvents, Carpet and underlay, Liquids/ Oils, Food Waste, Batteries, Plasterboard, Tyres, Asbestos, Fuel Tanks, Pet waste, Fridges/Freezers, Mattresses, Sofas and Sofa Chairs, see more about POP waste below.
To dispose of any of these materials you need to contact your local council. They will be able to provide you with a contact who can dispose of anything hazardous or not accepted in your skip (i.e. food waste). Road Permits
Road permits are required when placing a skip on council land. This can include footpaths, highways and grass verges too. In most cases a road permit can be arranged by ourselves at an extra cost and typically take upto 7 working days to arrange. A road permit is not required for private or unadopted roads however we will require proof of permission should the skip be required on a privately owned roadway.
Heavy Waste
The type of waste you are looking to dispose of will affect the size of skip that you should select. Materials such as brick, rubble, soil or hardcore are classed as heavy weight and as a general rule skips larger than 8 yards are NOT suitable as when completely filled our lorries may struggle to remove them from site due to the weight. Our larger skips, those of 10 Yards and above are reserved for lighter loads only.
Our Hire Period
At various times throughout the year we can allow our skips out for up to 28 days, occasionally a little longer if needed. However at busier times this maybe reduced to 14 or even 7 days. In most cases we can extend this hire period if notified upto 48 hours before the chosen collection date. What are Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs) ? 
At the beginning of this year and from new guidance set out by the Environment Agency with regards to the legal requirements for the collection and disposal of items that contain Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs). We can no longer accept waste items that contain or classed as containing Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs) into our skips with other waste types.
These include the following :
Sofas and Sofa Chairs, Sofa Beds, Kitchen and Dining room chairs, home office chairs, Bean bags, Stools and foot stools, Futons, Cushions and Sofa Cushions.
